Expedition - Glacier traverse
The Glacier traverse explore and cross remote glacier valleys from the bay called Tunu until the massive fjord Sermiligaaq, next to Kaarale glacier. During this crossing you will be camping and walking most of the time on snow covered glaciers, melting snow to cook and possibly reach some higher view points on the way.
During the traverse we could have a day where we can reach a higher view point, always on a hiking level and not climbing.
All the equipment and food will be divided within the team to make this trip completely autonomous but at the same time challenging, with every member of the team carrying 10-15 kg backpacks.
Included in this package there is one daytrip to a glacier near by Kulusuk Island. Depending the weather we could decide to have it as start or end of the trip.
The highlights of this trip are: glacier crossing, big mountains, wilderness camping.
The area where we will go is situated in Ilivinga fjord, a smaller branch east of Ammassaliq fjord and after 4 days of glacier crossing we will reach the sea at the far west of Sermiligaaq fjord. By speedboat will take any time between 2 and 5 hours, depending sea ice conditions.
For the day trip location, Apusiajik glacier is at 15 minutes by speedboat from Kulusuk island.
In this trip 3 nights are included in Hotel Kulusuk (full board). The rest 4 nights will be spent in expedition tents in the location described.
At arrival your guide will pick you up at the airport and from there you will reach the hotel Kulusuk by car. After making your self confortable you will have a meeting where the plan of the expedition will be explained.
All our transportation to our explored areas are made with the help of the locals by speed boat, the most experience boat drivers used to deal with extreme sea ice conditions.
All our guides are part of the Associasson of Icelandic Mountain Guides and qualified Alpine trekking Guides. Beside this certicifation, we also make sure to have guides with extensive wilderness first aid examinations and be qualified first responders. These, for us, are some of the good qualifications needed to be able to guide guest in such remote and wild places.
All areas of East Greenland are also territory of the polar bear so this land can't be underestimated and a real precaution must be taken. We provide guiding service from guides that we totally trust that will make sure you will have the best memorable time in East Greenland.
