Expedition - Nunatak first ascents
Description

If you want to reach the top of the mountains, you found the expedition for you!

In this trip the main focus is reaching summits and view points in incredible remote and wild areas of East Greenland.

The very small ratio 1:3 with the guide, allow this trip to reach more technical summits, not just hiking peaks but also some scrambling or easy climbing parts. During these 8 days in East Greenland you will explore two different areas and have the most time available in the wilderness, spending then just the first and the last night of the stay in the Hotel Kulusuk. Some of the peaks chosen might be possible to summit just with a day of approach from base camp so having 5 nights camping will allow us to move camp closer to the goal mountain, like a real alpine stile.

The requirement for this trip is some climbing experience and the level of the peaks to climb will be decided together with your guide after a conversation via email and of course at arrival with the whole group to make sure all individuals will have the same experience and expectations. The level of mountaineering will be maximum AD-D on the French Alpine scale. Please don't hesitate to contact us regarding your level and previous experience.

The highlights of this trip are: summit, glacier hikes, ice climbing, climbing, hiking, wilderness camping, glacier calving, nunatak view.

Location

The area explored are island north of Kulusuk Island, but options are huge. Some previous expeditions have been led in Hjelman Island reaching the highest peak of it and mountains next to Knud Rasmussen glacier in Sermiligaaq fjord, until now still unnamed peaks! The exact location of the trip will be made related to the conditions a the time. The two locations will be chosen in order to be able to be picked up and continue the exploration further north, towards the higher mountains.

Accommodation

In this trip 2 nights are included in Hotel Kulusuk (full board). The rest 5 nights will be spent in expedition tents in the location described above.

Logistics

At arrival your guide will pick you up at the airport and from there you will reach the hotel Kulusuk by car. After making your self confortable you will have a meeting where the plan of the expedition will be explained.

All our transportation to our explored areas are made with the help of the locals, the most experience boat drivers, used to deal with extreme sea ice conditions.

Safety

All our guides are part of the Associasson of Icelandic Mountain Guides and qualified Alpine trekking Guides. Beside this we also make sure to have guides with extensive wilderness first aid examinations and be qualified first responders. This for us are some of the good qualifications needed to be able to guide guest in such remote and wild places.

All areas of East Greenland are also territory of the polar bear so this land can't be underestimated and a real precaution must be taken. We provide guiding service from guides that we totally trust that will make sure you will have the best memorable time in East Greenland.
